Recap: 1st Test, India vs Australia 2023 (February 09 – 11, 2023)
India beats Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the 1st Test of 4 match series, inside three days at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha Nagpur. The massive win gave India to lead the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, 1-0.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. India had two debutants: Srikar Bharat as the wicket keeper and Suryakumar Yadav as a middle order batter. Australia also had a debutant Toddy Murphy as a spinner. Australia only managed to score 177 in the first innings. Indian spinners were dominating as Ravindra Jadeja took 5 wickets for 47 runs and Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets for 42 runs. Marnus Labuschagne scored 49 runs.
India scored 400 for their 1st innings. Rohit Sharma scored his 9th Test hundred (120) while Axar Patel (84) and Ravindra Jadeja (70) scoring half centuries. Debutant Todd Murphy took his first five-wicket haul in Tests (7 wickets for 124 runs) for Australia.
Australia starting their second innings with a deficit of 223 runs were never in the game as Indian spinners were dominating form the get go. Ravichandran Ashwin took 5 wickets for 37 runs (25th five-wicket haul) while Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets for 34 runs. Australia’s agony was over when they were all out for 91 runs, the lowest Total in India.
Ravichandra Ashwin became the second-fastest bowler to take 450 wickets in Tests (89 Tests). Ravindra Jadeja won the player of the match award for his all round performance with both bat and ball. The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start on 17th February at Arun Jaitley Statium in Delhi.
